New Release: Thrice “Anthology”
Thrice has long been one of my favorite live bands. It’s accurate to say I enjoy their studio albums, but the chemistry between the band and their fans, which is somehow infused into the live sound, can’t be recreated in a studio. Like the speed of an animal or the adrenaline-ignited-emotion of Evel Knievel before a jump, what’s caught on tape doesn’t quite capture the essence of experiencing Thrice live. Needless to say, when I heard Anthology was not just a “Best of” compilation, but a live recording covering the gamut of quintessential songs from each phase of the band’s 14-year career I couldn’t have been happier.
Trying to describe a band live is often akin to trying to describe your first kiss – it has to be experienced. So, other than telling you I’ve once again been blown away by how full this four-piece sounds on stage, how passionately Dustin Kensrue sings, and the hauntingly beautiful bleed-through of the crowd singing along to every song, I’ll just let Anthology speak for itself. You can listen to the first and last tracks below, or stream and scream the entire double-album here!
