New Release: The Hives ‘Lex Hives’
The high kings of low-fi have issued a decree: ‘Lex Hives’ is upon us. Five years in the making, ‘Lex Hives’ is the long-awaited labor of love from The Hives. The fifth album from the suavest Swedes the world has ever seen is The Hives doing what they do best: loud, obnoxious, fast, and straight to the point rock n’ roll.
I love this record for the same reason I love my drip coffee maker; I know it’s purpose. I don’t care how much you love iced vanilla lattes, you don’t ask to borrow my drip coffee maker, then get mad at me because it doesn’t make vanilla lattes. My drip coffee maker makes a killer cup of coffee, plain and simple.
Likewise, if you buy any record from The Hives and are upset because they haven’t incorporated harps and violins, or a dubstup breakdown, that’s your own fault. This quirky quintet has consistently put out records aimed at making you sing, dance, laugh, and dance some more. And everyone who has ever criticized them has been silenced by The Hives’ live show, because their songs were meant to be experienced, not just listened to.
