New Release: The Bouncing Souls ‘Comet’
Have you ever heard a record from The Bouncing Souls you didn’t like? ‘Comet’ is no different. Once again, the Jersey boys have returned with a fistful of tunes that pack quite the punch. It came as no surprise that ‘Static,’ the first single was my least favorite song, which is saying something because it’s a great track.
It seems like every good record this year has come out of The Blasting Room, and Bill Stevenson has maintained his streak with ‘Comet.’ The guitars are dirtier, the drums are louder, and the vocals are, somehow, more in your face than ever before. Though every song sounds like The Bouncing Souls, Stevenson and the boys have given each song on ‘Comet’ a voice all its own.
The record begins with the fast-paced and hard-hitting ‘Baptized,’ then segues perfectly into ‘Fast Times,’ a song that feels like summertime. ‘Coin Toss Girl’ is, so far, my favorite track on the record, probably because it sounds like classic Bouncing Souls, pasted through the filter of 2012. The record concludes with the semi-acoustic ‘Ships in a Bottle,’ which in my opinion, could be the lyrical and grown-up sequel to ‘True Believers.’
You can stream the album in various places online, and here’s one of them. Enjoy!
