Beacon Moment: Dave Wakeling of ‘The English Beat’
In an industry flooded with flash in the pan acts, Dave Wakeling is no fly-by-night artist. Dave began performing more than 30 years ago, and still continues to do so today with The English Beat. During the 80s and 90s he was part of General Public, which featured members of Dexys Midnight Runners, The Specials, and The Clash.
Being active in music for over three decades has given Dave more than a lifetime’s worth of great stories. We had the amazing opportunity to talk with Dave for a couple of hours at his house in LA and hear the best ones – including him talking about learning to play the guitar upside-down and backwards. Also, be sure to watch through the end of the video so you can catch him sing the classic “Save it for Later.”
As a bonus, We also through in some killer photos that were taken during the interview. If you don’t have your tickets for his summer tour yet, check out the tour schedule here.
